Un-Rest at Victoria Baths

When it opened in 1906, Victoria Baths on Hathersage Road, Manchester, was described as “the most splendid municipal bathing institution in the country” and “a water palace of which every citizen of Manchester can be proud.”

When Manchester City Council decided it had to close Victoria Baths in 1993, there was a vigorous reaction in the local community, which has led to its restoration as a unique, unforgettable setting for a wide range of events.

Tonight sees the launch of the Un-Rest exhibition, which references how Manchester and the North connects to the world – explored through visual and sensual experiences, and demonstrating the appropriation and influence of aspects of the Latin and African American, juxtaposed with local sub cultures.
