OutKast’s André Benjamin stars as Jimi Hendrix in this revealing biopic, which covers a year in Hendrix’s life from 1966-67, as an unknown backup guitarist making his mark in London’s music scene, up until his Monterey Pop triumph.
The film is currently certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw said that André Benjamin gives a fine performance as Hendrix but copyright issues mean that none of the great songs can be used, so Hendrix’s musical presence is lacking.
Tickets and screening times are available from the Cornerhouse.
