Manchester Literature Festival 2014

Manchester is usually associated with football, music and rain but the city also has a rich literacy legacy; from Karl Marx writing about working life here in the mid-19th century, to Salford’s punk poet John Cooper Clarke and current poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy, who has lived in the city for almost 20 years.

The Manchester Literature Festival presents inspirational live literature and this year will run from the 6th to the 19th of October. The festival celebrates the power of writing across all creative and technological media and the cutting-edge programme of activities challenges the boundaries of what is traditionally understood to be a literature event.

There really is something for everyone, whether you’re a fan of poetry, Danish crime thrillers or graphic novels. There are walking tours, family reading days and award ceremonies, as well as talks by some of Britain’s most acclaimed and prolific novelists, including Howard Jacobson and Martin Amis.
